Jeff Koons, the King of Kitsch

“I believe in advertisement and media completely. My art and my personal life are based in it. I think that the art world would probably be a tremendous reservoir for everybody involved in advertising.” Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons is an American artist known for reproducing pervasive cultural objects which often highlight how issues of status are embedded in everyday objects. Following the example of Pop artists of the 1960s, Koons used his work to reflect the commercial systems of the modern world. He managed to shock the art world with one audacious work after another, from displaying commercial vacuum cleaners and basketballs as his own art to making porcelain reproductions of kitsch objects to showing homemade pornography.
