Philippe Halsman was a Latvian-born American portrait photographer.

His great career in America over the next 30 years included reportage and covers for every major American magazine. These assignments brought him face-to-face with many of the century’s leading statesmen, scientists, artists and entertainers. His work also appeared in advertisements and publicity for clients like NBC, Simon & Schuster, Elisabeth Arden Cosmetics, and Ford.

Halsman became one of the most prominent photographers in America.

He ended his portrait sessions by asking famous people to jump. What a challenge than to ask Richard Nixon, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Judge Learned Hand to jump! He really had a great power of persuasion !!
