Beetle Sphere & Cube

Indonesian sculptor Ichwan Noor, created this awe-inspiring and giant sculpture for the Art Basel Hong Kong art fair that was hosted in China for the first time.

The 1953 Volkswagen Beetle, combined with polyester and aluminum, has been morphed and molded into a perfect sphere. Incredible!

The shape of the car has been pressed onto the spherical form, producing a
dynamic movement, a certain flexibility, but also fragility.

However, this isn’t the only time that Noor has re-imagined the shape of the Beetle. He also created the antithesis of the car’s shape in 2011 when he made one into a perfectly angular cube.

The 1953 Volkswagen Beetle is the perfect model for sculptures because
it has one of the most iconic shapes in the automotive world!
